Emergency Numbers
112 is the emergency number for fire, police and ambulance and so is only to be used in cases of real emergency, when every second counts. 112 is the emergency number throughout Europe.

Police stations
For police services, or for the Aliens’ police, first call 0900 8844. You will then be connected to your local police station or visit www.politie.nl

Gas, electricity 24-hour number:
A 24-hour national number to call for electricity, gas or meter problems, if you suspect a gas leak, smell fumes or have a general power problem: 0800 9009.

Banking
You are required to provide identification before being allowed to open a bank account .EU citizens require a valid passport or an ID card, proof of residency from the GBA (gemeentelijke basis administratie), a verification document such as a gas and electricity bill or a rental agreement with your address, proof of income and your Citizen Service Number (BSN, Burger Service Nummer, previously SOFI tax number). These documents are not required if you only wish to open a savings account, however a savings account is always linked to a current account.Non-EU citizens must provide proof of registration with the IND (immigratie- en naturalisatiedienst) and a work permit. You must go in person, taking your passport or other acceptable identification to open a bank account number.
